Globalization is shaped and promoted by numerous international organizations. By and large, however, it is the rich countries in the North that lay down the rules and parameters for the economic development in the South. Neither the World Trade Organization (WTO), nor the International Monetary Fund, or the World Bank is particularly attentive to the special needs of development countries.
